Road Trip!!!

Havana Rumba LLC[1]Now that we have explored some wonderful restaurants in the tri-state area, how about venturing out a bit further?

Only two hours from Evansville, Louisville could easily be explored during a quick day or weekend trip.

There are three amazing restaurants I would recommend in Louisville.

The first is a Cuban restaurant called Havana Rumba. Besides being extremely tasty, the food at Havana Rumba must be pretty authentic as well because my Cuban friend put his stamp of approval on it. In fact, it is his favorite restaurant!

If you’re in the mood for a flavorful sandwich with melt-in-your-mouth tender meat, try the Cubano!

How to Open a Fresh Coconut!

020A few months ago, I found myself hanging out in my living room with some friends, passing around a fresh coconut with three straws.

As I drank the sweet juice, a balmy early spring breeze meandering through my screen door, all I could think was “Ahhhhh.”

I felt like I was on a tropical island, just having come inside after a day at the beach.

That evening was actually what inspired me to share this blog, the idea that food can transport you to another time and place.

Bienvenidos. Akeyi. Welcome!

086I am an early-thirties adventurer who spent the majority of my twenties traveling the world doing mission work.

I climbed mountains. I held babies. I ate worm cocoons. I cried at poverty and suffering. I drank deeply of each new culture I experienced. I laughed. A lot.

I discovered many new passions and interests along the way, and fell irrevocably in love with different cultures and new experiences.

Now I’m “settled in” finishing up my Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and continuing to enjoy as much adventure as I can find in my little corner of the world.

One of the ways I attempt to hold my wanderlust at bay is through my taste buds. I have found that an amazing little off-the-beaten-path restaurant or a delicious international meal cooked with my friends can transport us via our senses to a different country with each flavorful bite.

For example, wouldn’t this delectable Baked Salmon in Lime-Coconut Cream Sauce just fly your senses somewhere that’s not here?
